Both the American and Canadian governments have funding available for companies that take technological risks in order to compete in the domestic and global marketplaces. The American federal program is formally called the Investment Tax Credit for Increasing Research Activities. It is informally known as the Research Credit, and it is codified under IRC section 41. The Canadian program is known as the Investment Tax Credit for Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED). It is authorized under Section 248 and is described in Regulation 2900.
